Service Description
Single Day Workshop, Wednesday In this class we'll go over the basic elements, concepts, and techniques associated with painting on glass with high-fire vitreous pigments, Gum Arabic, and water. Each student will paint the same simple face, focusing on: - Paint pigment choice - Appropriate Gum Arabic ratios - Trace line Quality, opacity, and techniques - Application of stipple and flat matt - Type of brushes and hairs, and their appropriate uses - How to cut, burn, and shape scrub brushes - Kiln firing schedules - Safety precautions for painting with heavy metals and particulates Questions will be encouraged, and other topics will be touched on, though not explored hands on, such as low-fire enamels, silver stain, alternative mediums, and alternative firing schedules such as for oils, stain, sandwich fusing, etc. Come with some knowledge, or none, and you will leave with the ability to confidently incorporate painting into your future flat or warm glass work. Some materials will be provided, others shared. If you want to bring your own brushes you are encouraged to do so. Retailer lists will be provided for where to purchase brushes, pigments, and other tools during the class. Daniel White is a Studio Manager with Willet Stained Glass Studios, and has been painting on glass for almost two decades. He specializes in restoration match glass painting, and has also painted for new commission work, restoration, and conservation during his career.
