The James C. Whitney Memorial Scholarship

Jim Whitney was a strong supporter of the American Glass Guild during its inception, and approached his life, art, and craft with great passion and a high level of integrity. We hope his zest for life and pursuit of excellence will inspire recipients of this memorial scholarship in their stained glass careers. Since 2007 the Whitney Memorial Scholarship has handed out 95 scholarships.

Recipients receive full or partial scholarships for various educational opportunities, such as conferences and workshops, or ongoing educational efforts.

Mark writes: “As a recipient of the James Whitney Scholarship through the American Glass Guild this year, I wanted to express my thanks and share a little about my experience at Kathy Jordan’s Painting Intensive in October.. Running a business, it hardly seems possible to invest a week in a classroom, but the time has been greatly rewarded with both practical guidance for current projects and knowledge for long term growth…Stained glass has a community, and a common base of experience, and in its many facets also has great opportunity for constant growth and development in excellence.  I’m grateful for the scholarship to attend this class, and have come to believe it’s an important part of working in the field to take opportunities like this to learn from excellent teachers like Kathy and to share with and in the knowledge and experience of others.”
