For the first time the AGG presented the American Glass Guild AGNX Awards for Excellence in the Art of Stained Glass. Each year, our jurors award from one to three evenly weighted (i.e. non-ranked) awards. The number presented may vary each year at the discretion of the Jury according to the strength of the submissions, with a maximum of three in any given year. The jurors will consider as criteria: creative use of materials, original expression, aesthetic impact, clarity of narrative, and complexity of execution and will deliver a short assessment reflecting on the criteria for each winner. American Glass Now is intended to give artists an opportunity to experiment, show their skills, be ambitious, have a dialogue with fellow artists, and show the public what stained glass can be. Thank you to everyone who submitted!
Our thanks go to the jury – Virginia Raguin (Professor of Art History at College of the Holy Cross) and Judith Schaechter (Artist and Educator at University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA Academy of the Arts, and the NY Academy of the Arts). Raguin and Schaechter discussed and critiqued the works in the show during a special presentation at Glencairn Museum on Friday evening, June 27th, after which the AGNX Awards were presented by the jury. This year’s AGNX awards went to Mary Clerkin Higgins and Richard Prigg. Our congratulations to Mary and Rick!
